The Case that Humans are Gods, and Why that is Important to Capitalism

The Case that Humans are Gods, and Why that is Important to Capitalism

To be clear, I am not a God and neither are you. But the homo sapiens as a species meets the non-monotheistic definition of a God (#2):

  1. (in Christianity and other monotheistic religions) the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being.

  2. (in certain other religions) a superhuman being or spirit worshiped as having power over nature or human fortunes.

It is critically important that humans accept their roles as God on Earth, because without that acceptance we can not set a new vision for our role and how we want to build our existence. If we accept that humans caused climate change than we can accept that we have the power to fix climate change.

Here is a brief list of things created or completed by humans that are not part of the natural human state:

  1. Vaccines for deadly diseases like polio and measles

  2. Robotic arms controlled you your brain

  3. Heart, liver and bone marrow transplants that extend natural life

  4. In-Vitro Fertilization

  5. Extinction of the woolly mammoth and the ability to recreate it from cloning cells.

  6. Endangered species and the endangered species list - the ability to decide what species will be saved

  7. Nuclear bombs and other weapons that can literally wipe us off the earth

  8. Hoover Dam, Panama Canal and other engineering feats that redesig nature

These are just a few examples of how humans operate well outside of what humans should be capable of doing. While we are not the supreme being, there is no real support that there is an “almighty” God. If you add up all of the people God saves through miracles and compare that to people save by doctors , I think it is clear who is a more active in having power over life.

Today, we believe our role on Earth is limited, and that has manifested into a role of maximizing resources for our profit. If we accept our role as God on Earth, we can redefine our roles and responsibilities for the planet. We can set a vision for the type of world we want and then go out and create it.
